Breakdown your goals into action steps
“Dreams do not come true just because you dream them. It’s hard work that makes things happen. It’s hard work that creates change.”
- Shonda Rhimes
Ok so, by now you’ve identified some goals. First quarter will soon be coming to a close and second quarter will be waving hello, which means we should have a routine by now, and if you don't thats perfectly ok. What is it that we foresee exactly and do we have an ACTION plan for it?When I was in High School I knew that I wanted better for myself so I worked hard, improved my grades and built relationships with my teachers and mentors. As hard as I worked, I ended up hitting a road block. I was denied admissions into Washington State University. I appealed and fought hard in my appeal letter and I got in! While in college I knew there was no other decision but to graduate…..1 year old baby boy in all. I had a “career” I needed to go after, but never set actionable goals on how to get there. As I strengthen iD.A.Y.dream, I’m realizing how effective setting goals are, mainly because it helps me achieve so much more out of my day/week/month with all that I have to do. I created an “Action Planning Worksheet” that holds me accountable in many different areas from:
Areas for meditation
Who I need to Email/Call/Text
My “Don’t forget to” list
My “Don’t lose sight of” areas
I give myself a grade based off of planned vs. achievable for the day/week. Depending on how I measured up, I reevaluate the expectations I set forth for myself. Through this I’m able to be (SMART) Specific about what the action is, Measure if I was successful or not, Accomplish what I can or can’t commit too and if their within a Realistic and Timely manner.Let’s set those goals...you got this!B.
